Lovely paint. Lovely results. It was easy, too. Here''s how I did it in pictures. YOU can definitely do this. I hope this helps at least a few reluctant painters. A great paint job is really all about preparation, which means assembling the right tools before you start.

TOOLS I USED:
1. Purdy 144080310 1-Inch Angular Trim Dale Brush, X-Large
2. Artist brush, #8 Filbert, for touch-up. Guerrilla Painter Short Handle Bristle Brush, Set of 4, Filberts
3. Shur-Line 3700C 4-Inch Foam Mini Roller with 12-Inch Handle Make sure your roller is for SMOOTH SURFACES. It will probably specify "doors and cabinets." The 4-inch size is perfect. The 6-inch size is clumsy for this job but it would work.
4. One zipper lock bag, sandwich size. Protects brushes between coats.
5. One zipper lock freezer bag, quart size. Protects roller between coats.
6. One zipper lock bag, gallon size. Protects paint tray between coats. A small trash bag will work if your tray is too large for a gallon bag.
7. Disposable plastic paint tray like FoamPRO 306 Mini Roller Paint Tray, 6" . I actually reused a plastic vegetable container that previously held a pound of mushrooms. It just needs to be a little larger than the roller.
8. Several paper towels
9. Less than one roll of painters'' tape. The 1-inch size (actually 0.94") is fine for this job. Scotch ScotchBlue Painter''s Tape 2090-24A, .94 in x 60 yd (24 mm x 54,8 m) - 0.94" Width x 60 yd Length - Rubber Resin - Adhesive, Residue-free - 1 Roll - Blue . A local source may be less expensive.
10. Some old plastic as a drop cloth
11. Paper for masking glass, etc. Newspaper works fine. I already had some rolled brown paper so I used it. Trimaco GP12 General Purpose Masking Paper, 12-Inch x 180-Feet, Brown
12. Keep hands neat with disposable gloves. Ammex AINPF Indigo Nitrile Glove, Medical Exam, Latex Free, Disposable, Powder Free, Large (Box of 100)
13. And of course, the paint.

PHOTOS:
1. Paint comes packaged like peanut butter. Sealed well. Easy to open.
2. Door surface may be smooth or textured. This JELD-WEN "smooth" fiberglass door has just enough surface to hold paint.
3. I removed the latch and deadbolt. You could leave them installed and mask them. The glass panel is masked along with the sweep at the bottom and the latch side of the door. On the inside of the door, not shown, is masking at the top and along the hinge side.
4. To neatly mask hinges, overlap several strips of tape, a half inch or so above and below the hinge. Then use a utility knife to gently cut along the edge of the hinge. Peel off the excess. Rub the edges to be sure they adhere.
5. Before starting brush work, "marinate" your roller. Pour some paint in the quart bag. Put the roller in. Zip bag closed. Make sure the entire roller surface is wet with paint. This eliminates splotchy coverage when you first start rolling. There''s not much surface area on a door to "work in" the paint to the roller, thus the "marinated" roller technique.
6. Most doors have panels or trim details. Use brush to paint the parts that are not flat. Leave the flat surfaces for the roller.
7. You don''t have to paint a perfect edge. Just wipe the flat edge with a paper towel to smooth out any paint. You only need SMOOTH, not clean.
8. Paint the top of the door. Nobody will see it, but this helps keep a wood-framed door from warping.
9. Paint the hinge side the same color as the door. (The latch side is usually the same color as the inside of the door.)
10. Bag your wet brush right away. It''s okay if the handle sticks out.
11. Get to work with your marinated roller.
12. Roll the top.
13. Roll the rest of the rails.
14. Roll the flat part of the panels.
15. Bag your tools while the first coat dries.

This paint dries nicely--probably one hour. Then do it all one more time. Carefully remove all masking.
Wash your brushes with water. Rollers are hard to clean--I usually pull them off the handle and dispose.

Easy. Right?

I am REALLY PLEASED WITH THIS PAINT. Otherwise I never would have written such a long and detailed review. Thanks for reading. Good luck with YOUR door.

I had primed and painted my metal entry door a few weeks ago and was left with a white door that was so bright, it made my eyes water. After hours of online research, I decided Modern Masters front door paint was the answer to my prayers. I donned my sunglasses and lightly sanded the surface of the door. Then, I applied two light coats of "Hopeful" using a (*)pre-treated sponge roller. This magical paint left a flawless, soft, satiny finish of a pure, pleasing shade of white. Finished the entire door in a matter of 20 minutes and drying time was super quick. The price might seem a bit steep, but a little paint goes a long way. Plus, the results are priceless. Modern Masters superior front door paint gave me results that exceeded my expectations. Also, Modern Masters customer service is exceptional. Super friendly people.

(*)Here''s a helpful tip I found while researching. When painting with a sponge roller, place it in a small plastic bag and pour a small amount of paint over the roller. Let it sit for about minute, allowing the paint to soak into the roller. Starting with an evenly moistened roller eliminates any potential dry spots during your paint application.

I am a DIY person, with some amount of experience with home painting. To get the effect that is shown in the preview of this product (of the door) it is really important to do ensure a textured look. I bet a smooth finish looks less attractive/ borderline ugly. Here''s what I recommend: Use a foam roller like FoamPro 4" roller, it is a high density foam roller, yellow colored one. Also use a corner roller if you door has groves, most doors do have.

Step 0: Do all the prep work!

Step 1: Ensure you paint the deep corners and hard to reach areas with a regular paint brush. You need to push the paint in into tiny corners. This is a very thick paint, so use a small tip brush (1") and push it in. Get all the cerevices and corners done with the brush. Do not paint the flat areas with the brush as this will leave brush marks. Ensure not to get runs... just wipe off or absorb with a cloth.

Warning: This paint dies really fast... and we are going to use this to our advantage here....

Step 2: Now to the flat areas, which is the bulk of the visible regions. Use the sponge roller and saturate the roller well. Then gently squeeze out the edges of the roller to remove excess paint (otherwise it will leave edge trails). Now roll the paint on to the flat areas. Go over the entire door.

*Here is the trick*

Get a sense of when the paint is about to dry out (Depends on your env conditions). Just before it dries out, when it still a bit sticky run the roller over it again and again... this will aggrevate the surface and cause it is bump up with little peaks.... do it a few times util the surface gets a rough appearance. As you do it, the paint dries out and retains the rough shape.
Use a corner roller to get this same technique in the groves of the door.

Step 3: Perform a second coat, with a same technique as above.

Step 4: Use the brush to touch up any small spots. If there are any runs, just even it out using the roller before it tries.

If you needs super rough appearance, I suggest using 3x thick primer and use this paint I suggested. There is a primer Zissner 3X or something of that name that is super thick. Note that you do not want to "round" the edges too much with build up. After priming, use a corner blade to re-define the corner/edge of the door.

Good luck

My roof is Brown, my house is beige and tan. And the trim is off-white. The door? You guessed it..beige. My house has an overhang, and with the overhang and the shade, you couldn''t even see my front door from the street. I''ve been wondering how I can spruce up my curb appeal for the last six years. After watching HGTV marathons, I decided that having an entryway door in a snappy new color, would go along way in curb appeal. I was right! I went on to Amazon researching exterior door paint. I was kind of put off by the price because it was over $40 for only 1 quart having an entryway door in a snappy new color, would go a long way in curb appeal. I was right! I went on to Amazon researching exterior door paint. I was kind of put off by the price because it was over $40 for only 1 quart. But I read the reviews and since it was such a small area I''d have to only buy one, I thought I''d give it a whirl. I painted the inside and outside of my entryway door with two coats and I still didn''t even use one third of the jar. I could easily paint at least two more doors. As far as curb appeal? Wowza! I have already had neighbors complementing it. It looks fantastic. Just to be sure, I ran across the street to my mailbox and looked at my house. I was aghast at the beautiful amazing color staring me in the face that I could clearly see from across the street. I honestly am completely amazed at how much better the whole house looks from just $40 jar of paint, and an hour of my time. This color is spectacular! It first went on darker but when it dried, the result was this fantastic color. The color is called tranquil, and it couldn''t be more appropriate. My friends were saying that it was a "beautiful happy" color. I would have to agree! I''m enclosing pictures of my house before I painted the door with the bland beige, and after I painted. Don''t take my word for it, see for yourself. If you are tired of looking at your boring, bland front door, and I want to jazz up your house, your neighborhood, and your life a little bit, then do yourself a favor and paint that front door a gorgeous color! You''re totally worth it. I mean why blend in when you were born to stand out?

Excellent product. Very easy to use. We were able to paint our front door with two coats and be finished all in one day. Product is a very thick consistency that causes it not to drip, run, splatter or ruin your paint brushes. Very little prep work and clean up. Really nice that they have an app that lets you take a pic of your door and try all of the colors. So you get a good idea of how your door will look when you actually paint it. I encourage everyone to try it. One other bonus, it comes in a really nice plastic container with a screw top lid. This makes it easy to pour and seal when done. You can apply a second coat within a few hours and it was completely dry by 4pm and we were able to close the door. And by 9pm, I was able to hang my wreath. Yay! As a bonus, only a third of the product was used. So we will be able to paint the back door to match the front. If you have a surface other than wood, I recommend priming your door first. It was recommended on a few sites we checked out when deciding on this product. So glad we found this. Would use again.

The jury is still out on this paint. I have a previously painted metal front door. I used the Zinser 123 primer that this jar suggests if your new paint color is lighter than your old. (I already had it on hand in gray so I just used that) My door was previously burgundy, so I primed with the gray before I used this paint in the color Optimistic. I primed with a couple coats and then went on to try this paint out. I have painted 4 coats... FOUR and I am stopping at 4. I think it''s completely covered, but I suppose if its not my front door doesn''t get used that much. I do love the color and it seems to change between a yellow and an orange. I would say it is school bus yellow, center dotted line yellow, or caution sign yellow (not the new high vis ones). I''ve been working on it the last week with a sheet over my front glass door until our new siding is finished, so then I can get the whole new look at once. So no I haven''t seen it in its full glory.... What I will say is this.. do I think its worth $40+?? No. It''s a quart of paint, that seemed to be an odd consistency that takes 4 or more coats to cover after primer!! That''s insane and a lot of work, especially when I have been told people hate the color and I should repaint it. (their opinions, but still) My front door gets really hot so we will see if this truly stands up as a front door paint. I found this online while looking at paint colors and pinterest. I honestly should have just went to hardware store, gotten a professional opinion and a basic front door paint in a paint chip color I could have had mixed... again for cheaper. My mistake. I just hope this all works out in the end after all the work I put into it. I will update later, with pics and how it stands up to heat. Here’s a couple pics before siding has been finished. One is after 4 coats and finished. The others are after 1 coat and then 3 coats. I painted it 4 times to fully coat the door and have it even, but as you can see it changed colors.

I was very bored by my cheap, white door. But since costs of everything are skyrocketing, I wanted an inexpensive update. My best advice is to prep prep prep. There were a few really great, detailed reviews that I found super helpful before. I really cleaned the door well, taped and put down drop cloths everywhere. I also chose to prime my door before, because it''s not new and I wanted to make sure this paint applied well. The paint is quite thick and covers REALLY well. I used a brush for the trim (as one of the reviews suggested) and also followed their suggestions for the roller choice. It was SUPER easy and dried well and then I worked on the 2nd coat. 2 coats is enough, but I might apply a 3rd, just for really intense coverage and because when I removed the tape a chip came off. Overall I am EXTREMELY happy with this product and have TONS left over. A little really goes a long way. All my neighbours were super impressed. Many thought we had replaced the door, and when I told them it was paint, they were blown away. I would definitely recommend this product.

I bought the brown colour to repaint a 1972 door at my mother’s that had faded over time. It now looks professionally painted. Even she is pleased, and she is not easily pleased. In terms of process, I did not follow the OCD advice of others’ reviews. I bought a $1.50 foam roller and tray kit from the dollar store and used painter’s tape and a small brush I already had. I removed the handles from the door and taped off the top, sides and window, but left it upright on its hinges. I used the small brush I already had for the trim and used the smooth foam roller for the rest. No need to take the door off. There were no drips Only prep was washing the door well with dish detergent, wiping that all off, wiping again with water to remove any remaining soap then wiping dry with a microfibre cloth. The colour was an exact match to the original colour which was a real bonus! I have about 80% of the jar left over. Door need never look crappy again. Super pleased.
